What Would You Do...

if this message was on your voicemail when you came home? Trust me, these two parental units aren't going on American Idol anytime soon, I hope you find that somewhat reassuring!

Truth be told, it's a very sweet and endearing gesture! I was also amazed that they (and my Aunt Totsie - the real person and not our feline-namesake) managed to send cards that were both delivered today. How do people do that?

Yes, for those of you who know me, it's really a two-part question. First - how do you send something these days? I don't even know what the price of a stamp is... Second - how do time it so that it actually gets delivered on my birthday? Is it luck, or is it simply being a master of the ins-and-outs of the U.S. Postal Service? Is there an online guide somewhere that will help you figure mail delivery time? I'm so confused...

But at least I'm older...now there's a consolation prize for you.

Okay, I've been struggling with Desktop Tower Defense . I've been frustrated, I've been thrilled. As Debra says "its all about hopes and dreams, hopes and dreams." Well, quite frankly, I've had a lot of dreams about completing just the medium level. And up until today, they've been just that, dreams. I'm now please to say that I've graduduated. I've completed all 50 phases of the medium level! Hurray for me! (Lets face it, I'm sure you're not saying that, so let me have a little self-congratulatory praise for a minute...sheesh.) Although, even though I completed all the phases, my score still doesn't rival some of the board leaders. I'm a little confused...I only let 4 creeps through, yet my score is a couple of thousand less than the leaders. How is that possible? Can anyone clue me in? New Addition: 2011 GL550

After the lease for our Honda Accord Hybrid ended, we decided that we needed something a little larger. We realized that we didn't have any vehicle that could carry something larger than a small (maybe medium?) box. So I set out searching for something that might give us a little more flexibility. I looked at trucks and while I wasn't looking for something new, the used prices on any decent truck was way more than I was willing to pay. Having had a 1999 F250, I was also weighing exactly how usable a truck would be for the majority of our driving. I just couldn't make the higher cost, lower options and lesser practicality balance in my book. So I kept looking.... As with everyone these days, I started looking at SUVs - it seemed a natural progression. Apparently, I'm not alone. S-Class Upgrade?

 I did it again. Another Mercedes project. This was an auction find at my local Copart - a one-owner, low mileage (124k) with a clean CarFax and decent service history. After all of the research, I broke down and bid. Winning the auction for $1,700 seemed reasonable, even given the fees would add about $1,300 to overall cost.  First inspections revealed a broken vacuum hose leading to the brake booster (right at the check valve) that was held together with electrical tape. Not really a good sign that seemed to go against the service records in CarFax. I had no idea how severely these cars reacted to vacuum leaks until I drove it. I was ready to give up, but ordered the $40 replacement line anyway. The car barely drove and if the line separated, the un-boosted brakes required a massive effort to get this giant car to stop.
